It has been confirmed today the the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse has been bought by the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas
The Ardnamurchan peninsula is the westerly most point on the mainland of British Isles. The 36 meter tower, which sits 55 meters above the rocks was built in 1849 from Island of Mull granite. It was designed by Alan Stevenson, whose family were responsible for many of Scotland’s Lighthouses built over a 150 year period.
The Lighthouse is the only one in the world designed with “Egyptian” styling, hence why the building has attracted the attention of the Luxor Hotel. The Lighthouse will be taken down brick by brick and shipped for reassembly at the hotel next to Las Vegas Boulevard.
The Luxor Hotel plan on installing the Lighthouse in the grounds of the hotel to act as a viewing platform for the main pyramid and the general Las Vegas Skyline.
Hotel owner Terry Benedict is quoted as saying “We are very excited to have secured the purchase of this very unique monument and look forward to adding it to the many attractions at the Luxor Hotel”.
