October 2021
Hello all and welcome to this newsletter for October 2021 – the end of another season is upon us!
Rhu muster report
On 3-5 September we held our final muster of the year at Rhu marina. The weather forecast was again favourable and allowed for 15 boats / 34 people to attend and join us for the weekend. On the Friday afternoon / evening the boats arrived at their leisure and we were all berthed together along J & H pontoon. We had decided that for this muster we would try to squeeze in all the activities that we had missed during the season…. we started this on the Friday evening where the Flag officers served drinks in the Marquee and allowed members to socialise followed by inter-boat hospitality.
On Saturday morning all the boats were dressed overall for the day. At lunchtime we headed back up to the marquee in fancy dress with the theme ‘when I grow up I want to be…..’ – we had a number of Captains, a pilot, Wonder Woman, a footballer, a racing driver, a belly dancer, a Scotsman, a chicken, a cowgirl, a Pink lady, a dog, a tennis player, a leprechaun and the Milktray man! (apologies to those I have missed!). During the fancy dress each boat had brought a picnic lunch which we followed up with a quiz.
The fancy dress prizes went to John White as the Milktray Man & Fiona Mckay as an Artist.
The prize for Best dressed boat went to Autumn Spirit who had cleared out all of the bunting stock from the Range on their way to the boat.
The quiz was closely fought and went down to a tie break which was won by the team consisiting of Paragon, Kickdown & Candi.
On the Saturday evening we arranged taxis and all members went to the Masala Twist Indian restaurant in Helensburgh where we were treated to a very good Indian meal followed by inter-boat hospitality back at Rhu marina.
On the Sunday morning breakfast rolls were cooked and provided up at the marquee by Douglas, Stuart & John before all members headed off back to their home marinas (a special thanks to Jamie Scott for providing the sausage!).
Unfortunately I had to head off late on Saturday night due to work commitments but I think we had a very good closing muster for 2021 and caught up on a few missed activities from the last 2 seasons. We were looked after very well by Rhu marina & Masala Twist and a great time was had by all.
Membership
We have had some new members in the last few months, Mr Robert Langton with vessel ‘Searanger’ berthed in Largs and Mr Robin & Mrs Erica Smith with vessel ‘Daydream’ berthed in Rhu. I hope we will meet these new members at some point but if anyone else sees them during your travels I hope you will extend them a warm welcome to the RSMYC.
We also recently received the sad news of the sudden passing of George Taylor (Jane ‘D’), I would like to send sincere condolences from all at the RSMYC to Jane and the rest of George’s family.
Ladies Lunch
The Ladies Lunch is booked for Saturday 20th November and will be held at The Butterfly & the Pig on Bath Street in Glasgow. The lunch is booked for 1pm with arrival drinks at 1230. The cost will be £39.99 per person to include an arrival drink (Prosseco / bottle of beer, a nonalcoholic drink option will be available), 3 course lunch, a glass of wine for the ladies with their meal & tea / coffee to finish. After the lunch we will have a reserved area to have drinks and socialise. Those who wish to attend the Ladies lunch please email details to info@rsmyc.com, full payment is required upon booking and should be sent to the RSMYC account. Please note that the venue is strictly limited to 50 people for the lunch and we are working on a first come first served basis so please don’t delay book today!
We hope to see you at the Ladies Lunch next month and details for the Winter Lunch in January will hopefully follow soon. I would normally sign off with ‘safe sailing’ but I think those days are numbered for most of us for the remainder of this year so I wish you all the best for rest of 2021 and hope the winter passes quickly so we can get back out on the water in 2022!
Best regards,
Matthew Hill
